Fascinating topic! Two thoughts: 1) A Hundred Years of Solitude acts out exactly what you're describing here. 2) I think my mother's family has a bit of a 'curse' on it. What's alarming too is that it often affects only or especially the women. Most visibly? (In this case, the men are functional human beings with families of their own.) As the next woman in line, I try not to worry about it... too much.
I wish for you to evade the curse! And yes, 100 Years of Solitude is a great novel about the topic, I'm surprised I didn't even think about it. I'm probably due for a re-read.
Excellent reflections. It's not your main point, obviously, but I just wanted to say I've seen the Kaputar pink slug, in large numbers, at Mt Kaputar, New South Wales in spring, as the sun emerged after bitterly cold rain and wind. Even people who live there may go their whole lives without seeing the slug, so we feel lucky to have seen this bizarre creature.
One would think society should do more about domestic violence considering how pervasive and damaging it is, yet I never hear leaders discussing it and donβt see it much in the news. I wonder why.
I think it's really just a hard problem. As far as I know there's a decent amount of resources out there, but it's not necessarily easy to help someone who needs them for a variety of reasons, some deeply psychological.

Cool! Do you have any pictures? Wikipedia says that 90% have died in forest fires a few years ago :(
Poor Charles II. Surely one of the unhappiest kings anywhere, ever?
He certainly isn't smiling much in his pictures!
